Overall, the Saudi Arabian government’s approach to human rights, led by the king, has been to continue making incremental improvements, while recognising the tensions between reform and tradition in this inherently conservative kingdom. Despite encouraging signs of improvement and some notable announcements by the Saudi Arabian government in 2011, the human rights situation in Saudi Arabia remains of concern.
